HOUSTON—A little beauty parlor in Fort Bend County has been hit twice in a month by burglars who’ve stolen a small fortune worth of hair extensions.

Grainy surveillance video shows two thieves crawling on the floor of the Touch of Class salon one night last month. Just like the burglars who struck last Christmas Eve, they broke into an adjacent store space then cut a hole in the wall to enter the beauty parlor.

The store’s owners estimate the thieves have stolen more than $25,000 worth of hair.

“You come to your workplace, all of a sudden, within less than an hour somebody broke into your store, doing a whole mess,” said Victoria Akrfi-Mensah, one of the shop’s owners. “Something you work hard for.”

Hair extension thefts have become an increasingly common crime as the price of human hair has risen. Thieves are suspected of selling stolen hair on the streets and on auction websites.

The beauty shop located in the 17100 block of Beechnut remains open, but its owners say they’re losing customers because they’ve haven’t yet collected the insurance money that will allow them to buy more hair extensions. They plan to install tougher security measures before stocking more hair.
